What is Cold Shrink?
Cold Shrink is a weather/cable protection product that does not require heat in order to shrink, (hence the name “Cold” shrink). Cold Shrink is typically made from a rubber material that is held in place by an inner plastic tube that when removed results in the rubber shrinking down in size.
A good way to think of Cold Shrink is to compare it to a rubber band. If you stretch a rubber band it becomes charged with energy and can be fired like a slingshot. Once released the rubber band’s energy is also released and it decreases in size.
Cold Shrink is similar in that it gets stretched out like the rubber band but is then held in that stretched/energized position by an inner plastic tube. Once it’s ready to be installed you remove the inner plastic tube and it shrinks back to its original state.
We like to refer to Cold Shrink as being “supercharged,” meaning it has far more energy than your typical rubber band and is able to shrink from larger pre-stretched sizes down to a much smaller size once the inner core is removed.
